West Warwick, RI A new breakthrough in mini-crossheads from Guill Tool & Engineering Co., Inc. the MiniMicro™ Series — is now available with an outer diameter (OD) of 2 1/4″ (57mm) by 2 1/4″ (57mm) in length. These are smaller overall dimensions than Guill’s previous micro entry, the MicroFlow™ Series, which measures 3″ (76mm) in diameter by 4″ (102mm) in overall length.
Specially engineered for manufacturers of medical tubing, wire and cable, electronics and specialty OEM applications, the MiniMicro benefits users by providing an exacting, convenient method to create micro-sized tubing for all types of compounds and expensive resin and polymer applications as well.
The MiniMicro series is available in six standard designs; single-layer, single layer with a stripe, co-extrusion, co-extrusion with a stripe, triple extrusion and triple extrusion with a stripe and unlimited custom configurations.
“The unique MiniMicro die enables low volume extrusion and saves on material costs. It is ideal for those high priced resins often used in high technology, OEM and medical applications. Keep in mind that special modifications for a specific type of mini-application, material or end product should always be engineered on a case-by-case basis,” states Bill Conley, Guill Tool Sales Manager.
The new MiniMicro spiral crosshead’s engineering advantages include: a patent-pending FeatherTouch™ adjustment in the die holder, which does not require the loosening of retaining screws to make adjustments. It also has the Seal Right System, which eliminates leakage between the deflectors and is maintained through easy self-adjustments, thereby reducing potential errors during assembly.
The MiniMicro™ spiral is fully adaptable to extruders one inch and smaller and is manufactured in stainless steel or Inconel® to meet the requirements of medical and other FDA-relevant applications. A balance flow design offers effortless assembly and disassembly of the crossheads. The tooling offers a maximum die size of 0.500 of an inch and is available in fixed center or adjustable center. Mica-band heaters are instrumental in safeguarding and enhancing the material temperature for optimum flow of the extrusion end product.
