West Warwick, RI – The new Series 220 from Guill Tool &- Engineering is specially engineered as co-extrusion tooling for producing advanced profiles and seals in combinations of materials including; rubber and other thermosets as well as various types of thermoplastic used for appliance, aerospace, automotive, construction and marine products.
The Guill Series 220 tooling can extrude product sizes of 1/2 inch (1.27cm) to 2 1/2 inches (6.34cm). A key money saving technical advantage of the 220 Series is that it offers simultaneous directed material flow for a single product or multiple families of products – that have the same, identical material requirements, yet must be extruded in different end use sizes.
A unique design configuration allows the extruded material to pass through the Series 220 tooling and prevents compound degradation as well as stagnation in the die. The material flow can be directed to various areas of the substrate in order to create a more precise end-product. All flow passages are specially designed using 3D/CAD and proprietary flow analysis software.
“The new Series 220 incorporates engineering advances such as; a precision shut off valve that regulates the flow of compound, – on the fly – for the extruded seal, trim or profile that is produced” states Rich Guillemette, design engineer at Guill Tool. “With the co-extrusion capability, the Guill Tool design eliminates downtime that would normally be required to change dies, in addition to saving space on the factory floor because less equipment and tools are required to manufacture multiple products” he summarized.
Guill Tool also manufactures tips, dies, and breaker plates using state-of-the-art computerized CNC machining and EDM equipment. As well, engineering services using the latest CAD systems are available for custom-designing extrusion tooling product such as crossheads, tips, clamps, flanges, forming rolls, spiderless inline dies, dies, swing gates, breaker plates, special equipment and sizing dies.
Guill Tool received ISO certification in 1995. The first major extrusion tooling company to meet international standards. Guill Tool has long been recognized as one of the leading established designers and manufacturers of custom extrusion tooling for applications including wire, cable, fiber optics, medical tube, wood composites, automotive tube, plastic compounding, custom applications, rubber, profile, industrial pipe, hose and tube, blow molding, and food and packaging.
Guill Tool also encourages and provides education and training for the extrusion industry with plastic and aluminum model heads, fully illustrated operating manuals for step-by-step assembly and disassembly, training videotapes, and classes on the care and cleaning of extrusion tooling.
Founded in Rhode Island in 1962 by A. Roger Guillemette, Guill Tool was established as a job shop supplying tips, dies, crossheads and replacement parts to the wire, cable or wire and cable, plastic and rubber industries in New England. Later, Guill Tool became a supplier for the entire United States and Canada, and today enjoys a worldwide market presence.
